To Watch You Leave

To watch you leave…
Is to witness the sum of my parts die a thousand deaths
Each time a piece of the puzzle falls, leaving behind a void
That was once saturated with love
To watch you leave…
Is to know such pain, its jagged edges tearing into my soul
As a stake from the garden tears into the warm, dark earth
To watch you leave…
Is to be consumed by a cold so bitter and raw, it permeates my flesh
And resonates within my bones
Knowing all the while that never again will I fit myself,
Warm with sleep…against your solid back
Never again will our bodies lie together in perfect symmetry
Soul spooning soul…
Cheek caressing cheek…
Heart serenading heart…
To watch you leave…
Is to know that I have lost my place on this earth
My harbor…my haven…my true north
I will meander lost…alone
Reliving the happiest of times over and over,
Like a silent movie playing in my mind
For the balance of my days….
