Memories and Milestones

Weathered hands held cross a table
Shoulders sagging, tears flowing free
With quaking voice he asks the question
“What do you see, when you look at me?”

In halted speech he continues
“Cause in you I see our life’s past
Childhood pranks, treasured dates, our marriage
All cherished memories I hold fast”

While the clock ticks measured minutes
Years play as movies in her mind
Smiling faces and newborn babies
All the simple joys in life we find

Eyes catch for a fleeting moment
Cross a span of fifty odd years
Seeing past the age spots and wrinkles
Beyond gray hair, battle scars, and tears

So, gently she caresses him
His burdens echoing in her eye
“What do I see when I look at you?”
“Never-ending Love,” was her reply……
