Flat Lined

I am not sure I can express
Just how sad I am….
That you think so little of us
That lies easily drip from your tongue
Omissions are so loud they fill the space
Between us and push us apart
I once felt safe and loved next to you
Now all I feel is used

I want to feel trust and care and open
What did you sell that for?
One night?
A short fling?
A backseat or back table in a bar?
Or is this something more treacherous?
A flirtation taken to the next level
Or primal urges fulfilled on a drunk and lonely night

Is it one of the usual suspects? Tammy, Terri
Or maybe that dark and trashy Allie
What do I have to offer compared to those?
Only love, mindfulness, caring, and nurturing
That’s all…..
So I must examine whether I want
To be with a man who lies so easily
And even thinks he can hide it from my heart?
How can I live with such betrayal?

How can you not show guilt and remorse?
Beyond the slight glimpses I see and
The readiness to sprint away from each time
I look at you with curious eyes
You are confused
You are in pain
You want what is comfortable
Yet cannot help but grab what is dangerous

You are stabbing my heart with your indifference
You are wounding my soul with your dishonesty
I hoped we were the love of each other’s hopes
We could have helped with each other’s dreams
My heart is deadened
The joy I felt vibrate on my lifestrings
Has fallen silent and numb
Such a loss…
Such a shame…
Such a waste….
