To My Lover

To my lover
Who wanders yet goes nowhere
And walks still with me in
Dreams laced with smoke yet
The air tastes like…blackberries

And everything is beautiful here
In our world which we created
And keep recreating in a soft dialogue
And tight sighs

To my lover
I see you through my wondering eyes
And know all about you
And …
Your ways…

You keep saying things will never change
And yet they do
And have in a manner
That only I can see because I am only me

To my lover
Father of my feeling
And lackluster wishes
You squeeze the suns’ loveliness
From itself and it drips
And smothers my tongue

My youth is where nowhere goes to die
And I cannot stop the panic from being born
And totally enveloping me

To my lover
I picked a flower on Tuesday
And I called you by your name

Why did the wind bend
Around my body at that moment?

Did you hear me?

Was that a piece of your breath
In the sticky, winsome breeze?

To my lover
The day we always spoke of has arrived
And I cannot find your fingers
To complete my hands
And I do not remember why we even began
To love one another in the first place……

To My Lover
