Remind Me

Remind me what I’m dying for
The process has begun and darkness weaves its way in strands
Throughout the dimmed light of life
Like porcelain shattered into pieces
Forming abstractions in the darkening sky
Painting a sunset in black and white
While gradually the shades of gray are deepening

Remind me what this pain is for
I have spent countless hours trying to interpret meaning
Tasting the masochism of the human condition
Cutting and bleeding to quiet the disembodied voices of my mind
When the blood spills, the cries of purgatory end
And I am able to open my eyes and walk out of the grave once more

Remind me why the darkness is so feared
And humankind revolts against its velvet winged enclosure
Why it is the calm that creates despair, as if chaos were the only form of life
Death is our constant, camouflaged companion walking in the shadows
Watching life unfold as a mere temporary separation from reality
So fall into the shadows dreaming, as every truth will meet you there
Seek not the ignorance of blinding light
Seek the sweetness of the unending night

Remind me what’s worth living for
In the transience of mortal tribulation and tales with no clear endings
Riding the ocean’s tumultuous waves upon a ghost ship sailing aimlessly
Surrounded by the smoky fog, tasting an air of the forbidden fruits
In a sea of crashing waves composed of salt, tears, and corpses
Pale beauty..dying young…seeking the pleasures of what lies beneath
