Gigantic Buddha sculpture at the Yungang Grottoes in Datong, China.
Dating back to the Northern Wei Dynasty (386 – 534 BC), the sculptures here are heavily influenced by The Gandhara and Mathura schools of India. The little holes you see were caused by firing during the Japanese invasion of China during the Second World War.
The Grottoes were included in UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage List in 2001.
