I was at Coober Pedy an Opal mining town in Outback Australia, I was told
not to venture into the dangerous part of town, wow I thought must go there to take some pic’s.
I came across this guy Jonothon, he approached me with a bottle in his hand,
I thought he was going to attack me, I had my heavy Leica camera ready to use as a defence weapon.
“Hey Brother” he said “Want to buy some Opals”
I told him his bottle was full of dirt ,but I would pay him to let me take some photographs of him.
He haggled with me whilst his tribal brothers were yelling at me to take their photo’s for $5.00.
Jonothon had a great face full of character, angst and hardship but full of humour.
The natural light was perfect at the time
I ended up giving him $25.00, we were both pleased with end result, I had shot everything with film and had to wait a month to see the results.
