Artist's Description

This is a watercolor from once upon a time, when my husband and I lived in this circa 1880’s Victorian home. It housed a Post Office in the basement, which had been there since 1919. It felt quite good to be government landlords and receive a monthly check from them!

Since the town of Railroad, PA, USA was so small, (approximately 320 people), there was no mail delivery. Instead the townspeople gathered in our basement to pick up their mail from the wide array of antique combination lock boxes.

The yard was so steep, that I actually had to wear golf cleats to mow it, or I would have been dead meat! Above the grass line in the woods, we found many buried old treasures in the ground.

I have been digging for antique bottles since I was about 16. Ever since then, I have loved to unearth history. Our Railroad home kept me quite busy and full of anticipation.

I loved sitting on our back porch and listening to the train whistle as it passed through town. It made me think of days of old and how things must of been. Ah, the passion for sweet nostalgia!

I always use Arches watercolor paper. In this particular painting, I used the wet on wet technique for the trees with blotting and dry brushed the brick part of the house.
