This was the second summer that Mama nested in my tree. Unfortunately, her baby got out of the nest before he could fly. I rescued him twice from the perils of a dog and a fence. Mama got close to me and frantically pecked the fence to alert me of danger. My Cocker Spaniel had him in his mouth the first time. The second time, the baby, now a fledgling got a leg stuck between two fence boards. I had to pry the fenceboards with a piece of wood to set him free. He broke his leg, but soon after that he was able to fly and now was an official fledgling. This photograph was taken in Roseville, California, USA with a Canon XT, equipped with a 75-300mm zoom.
