Artist's Description

Located in Monteverde (Santa Elena), Costa Rica you will find four butterfly gardens with 50 species of butterflies, a leaf-cutter ant colony, and medicinal plant garden. This particular butterfly is known for their huge eyespots, which resemble owls’ eyes. It is a species of one of the many Caligo Memnons. I thought that this was one of the coolest looking butterflies that I have ever seen and it was probably one of the coolest looking butterflies that had seen me!!

This photograph was shot with a Canon 40D, equipped with a 18-200mm lens.
