Coltsfoot in full frame. Quarter cut. Coltsfoot is listed as noxious weed or invasive plant in 46 state of the USA. It looks like a dandelion but belongs to the aster family. In herbal medicine, an infusion of the root is used for consumptive cough . A hard rock confectionery is made from the coltsfoot for cough suppressant. The flower ha been used as a vegetable but pyrrolizidine alkaloids are present in the plant which may cause liver problems. Plant is native to Europe and Asia. The plant is significant for the Gothic and Small Angle Shades, noctuidae moths. The plant is also used as a tobacco alternative. Coltsfoot tea is banned in Germany because of he high toxicity for liver damage and linked to infant death .
