Artist's Description

The Sallie Howard Memorial Chapel was built by Colonel Milford Howard in the late 1930s in memory of his first wife. This very unique chapel is an interesting place to visit. Its altar is made up of a huge boulder and river rocks. When Colonel Howard died in 1937 he was cremated and interred inside the huge stone. Over the Altar are the words “God has always been as good to me as I would let him be” immortalized from Sallie Howard’s last letter to her husband.
