Artist's Description

20 March 2009 ~ Sunset ~ Snapper Rocks

Details:

Canon 5D Mark II, 70-200 f2.8 L USM

Taken around sunset – 17:52:46, clouds on the day were awesome.
Camera was set on ‘M’ ie manually adjusted aperture and shutter – when I use ‘M’ typically use ISO 320 in the afternoon as it seems to give the best results. The light was dropping so I was using f3.2 and shutter speed of 1/640 to get the exposure right – this was out of a series of 3 images at various shutter speeds to get the exposure right. In this image I really liked the sunset through the clouds the reflection on the beach and the wave breaking through the middle. I tried to get the wave right in the middle of the image (no tripod).
The camera was also set with contrast cranked to the max and sharpness cranked up as well. I take all my photos in RAW
Post processing – very little actually as I like how it came out. I mainly use Canon Digital Photo Professional – on this image I liked the colours in it so tweaked the contrast a little to really pull them out, and a touch of saturation.
Saved as jpg. In Photoshop elements used the ‘unsharp mask’ to really draw out the clouds and hey presto there’s the finished image. No cropping on this one – like how it filled the frame!
