I’m originally from the “other” coast, raised at the tail end of the baby boomer generation, in Connecticut. My interest in photography was inspired in the early teens by a great friend and mentor who taught me the finer points of how to take scenic landscape photographs and develop them in a “real” darkroom. Fascinated with the process as well as the results, I retained an avid interest in the field.

In 1981 I moved to Baton Rouge, LA where I lived for two years and worked as an electrical engineer for the local newspaper. There, I was further educated and engrossed in the photographic journalistic field, “playing” occasionally in the darkroom at the newspaper. Two years later I moved to San Diego, CA where I now happily reside. After several “real” jobs I struck out on my own to establish Systems IQ, a company which provides computer consulting services for small and medium sized businesses. A few years ago I realized my motivation to turn my love of photography into a working enterprise, Philip James Photography.

Philip James Photography now provides a range of photographic services to agencies and individuals alike. I am a Juried Artist Member and recently elected member of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Village Art Center in Balboa Park where I share a working studio in the Village, Studio 19, where hand blown art glass as well as my fine art photographs may be purchased. There, I am also available to teach classes in various aspects of photography. Philip James Photography also sources stock photos to Acclaim Images, a leading stock photography company which offers high quality, limited distribution digital images and fine art prints direct from the photographer. I also provide services to companies that seek out my unique and functional style of product and event photography as well as web site design where, naturally, I incorporate my photographs.

My fine art images range in style from scenic landscape work to street and architecture. Traveling frequently provides me with an opportunity to photograph some of my favorite places extensively. I visit Cape Cod yearly and love capturing images of the colorful villages, fishing boats and beaches. Recently, I visited London and Paris and have been to Hawaii’s various islands many times. Of late, one of my photographs, titled “Downtown”, won First Place at the 57th International Exhibition of Photography 2006 San Diego County Fair.

Life can really suck and be better again I’m knowing…
Wow, well for the past few months I’ve been dealing with just a major amount of stuff concerning my brain illness and brain cancer glioblastoma, trying to getting better and well, all that craps.

Found that by 3 day hospital thing about in 6 month before, where they couldn’t find anything, was able to fine what the deal was in January by being in the hospital again of being glioblastoma finding the wanted to operate ASAP for the big crap causing me brain parts having to be removed. Great!

So after my surgery, I’m doing the 6 weeks of radiation and 6 weeks of pulls which my freaking insurance cover and would have cost me of $70 thousand I didn’t have and a very generate friend starting paying for but I was able to get in Social Security and California medical in 2 weeks of applying which is obviously amazing but concerning my crap they were, oh no problem, we are going to approve your application immediately…because it obvious that I could only live about a year or slightly more anyway. Great!

Doctor I saw up in Irvine said she works with just my types and took me to explore what new things might be working for the best new things. My other doctors here also have been great and amazing as well for me. That is awesome.

So I can’t really work but still will continue taking pictures and make the best out of my life for the moment and hopefully will be for long future. Of course…THAT’S THE GREAT PART!

So this is could be a story for all the crap…However I’m still alive and making it the best parts for me… That’s the great part for me and can’t really bitch about it when I consider doing OK…considering!
