The Greatest Blessing

Would I have been the one who stood against the lynch mob
Or in the back shouting with a violent rage?

In want and need would I go cold and hungry
Or loot what I can when the opportunity presents?

Would I, in Germany, have been a lonely voice of peace
Or more likely broken windows, and much worse, with the rest?

Caged in the filth of Gaza or fleeing some war in Africa
Can I say what I might really do?

In comfort and in peace, my morality is polished to a sheen
But in humility I know, it to is a just blessing granted.

Artist's Description

It is very easy to be virtuous when we are comfortable and at peace. But I suspect most of our virtue is simply a product of this comfort and this peace. It is neither earn’t nor tested.
