Artist's Description

MARY – (my Mum) two pictures

Her life spanned almost one hundred years 1914-2008…one of her earliest memories was being hoisted aloft on someone’s shoulders as everyone spilled from their houses onto the street where she lived to dance, party and celebrate the end of World War 1, November11 1918. she was 4 years old.

Her other memory at the same time was being in the photographers studio with her brother Edward (Teddy). She felt very sad because Edward would not smile despite the cajoling of the photographer

20 years and 10 months later she birthed her first child on the day WW2 was declared. the hospital was getting hatily blacked out in preparation for air raids and her husband was mobilised.

Today, Armistice Day, the world stops and remembers those who gave their lives for our continuing freedom. Pause and consider whether we have become apathetic in our stand against evil. Are we speaking up and are we employing our spiritual weapons of warfare? Are we inspired by those who have gone before or has time dimmed our gratitude and readiness to follow courageously in their steps? * Do we stand against evil, or did our forefathers fight in vain? *

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds* 2 Corinthians 10:4 (NIV)
