This family ran one of the warehouses in the Central Market in Mexico City.
The wholesale market for produce and other foods was in “El Centro” Mexico City. The population of Mexico City was about 12 million people. The produce from the rural areas was shipped and distributed to warehouse in this area and then the traveling markets would pick up their goods here and travel to different neighborhoods every day and set up a street market. Where I lived Markey day was Tuesday and we would be woken up early by the sound of the vendors setting up in the street outside our apartment. The street was closed and the market went on for 4 or 5 blocks, produce, meat, fish, spices, even live chickens, it was all there. My job was to accompany our house keeper/ cook/nanny for my son to the market. She would visit the different vendors, pick over the vegetables and bargain for the best price, when she was satisfied she would tell me the price, show me the tomatoes or whatever and wait for me to approve. Of course I always approved and pulled out the money needed and gave it to her. I did share in carrying the bags. We did the majority of our shoppinmg at this market. She never wrote anything down, carried no list but it always worked out perfectly and she was a wonderful cook.

Thank You Teresa for yet another feature, thrilled to put it mildly! tony
Great capture, a fave, love the B&W, the expression on the lady’s face lightens up with Laurel and Hardy :-) Congratulations with Family Business and the feature!

Thank You Tracey! I apologize for the late reply the last few months have been kind of crazy for me a drawn out illness that the diagnosis kept changing, the birth of my first grandchild, Max and the death of my Mom within 4 days. Still trying to catch up here on RB and discovering missed comments. tony
Brilliant images…
Thank You Luis! tony
LOL Laurel and Hardy!!
Yes, I thought it was pretty funny at the time given the place and time, I later found out that Laurel and Hardy were popular in Mexico. tony
I cannot decide which top i prefer? Laurel and Hardy or the dutch windmill?LOL
That’s funny, I really didn’t even notice the windmill when i was taking the photo but picked it out on the contact sheet, love those little bonuses you don’t expect. tony
Thanks so much James, honored to be featured! tony
Ahh Tony, I knew this was yours on the feed…. I just love the seriousness of the matriarch in opposition to L&H. I am also wondering what the older son has in his pocket? ;-)
LOL ! Thanks for the great compliment, I took 6 or 7 photos at different times and her expression never changed when I had the camera pointed at her and she gave me permission to shoot them initially. tony
