If you haven’t been to Glen Davis on the western side of the Blue Mountains in NSW Australia then you need to. Not too far from Lithgow on the Mudgee Road, turn right at the small village of Capertee. There is approximately 20 kms of good sealed road and about the same on a reasonable gravel section. The road travels through the Capertee Valley which is advertised as being the widest enclosed valley in Australia. The jagged sandstone cliffs and monoliths line and dot the lush farming area adding a beautiful backdrop to this out of the way and forgotten area of NSW. The road leads to the town of Glen Davis built to house and supply those employed at the shale mine and kerosene works (1939 – 1952). These industries have now ceased operation however there are guided tours of the workings each Saturday at 2 pm. Today there are no shops in town however accommodation can be found at the Glen Davis Boutique Hotel, the camp ground or private rental properties.
