Artist's Description

A record shot of the Svitzer tug Meringa returning after escorting the cargo ship China Steel Endeavour out of Newcastle Harbour on the 22.2.16.
The 250 tonne Meringa has a length of 25 meters, a width of 11 meters, built in 2006 with a draught of 5.6 meters. The tug has twin directional propellers powered by 2 large diesel engines fitted with a 90 degree gearbox. A third smaller diesel engine powers all the aux. systems on the tug. The tug has a crew of 3, skipper, engineer and deckhand. No person is allowed up front when the tow ropes are in use. The crew quarters are air-conditioned, spacious and well laid out.
