Artist's Description

Hooter a Tyto Nova-E-Hollandiae owl (a blue nosed Nova Castrian owl) noticed a comedian had placed a sign outside an original cottage once belonging to a Hill End resident. Those few cottages that remain standing have been boarded up to keep day tourists and ‘pickers’ away.

The great majority of the original gold rush buildings at Hill End have disappeared more so at the Tambaroora alluvial gold fields. Today, nothing remains of the Tambaroora village which in its hay day had a population of over 2,500. This Golden Gully alluvial area was the scene of much racial controversy with Chinese miners.

Hooter the wise owl will next upload a typical view one would find in the actual Golden Gully at Tambaroora.

Hooter stays at the Hill End Lodge.
