Artist's Description

Perugia is the regional capital of Umbria, often referred to as the “Green Heart of Italy”. The high plateau on which it stands has a number of “fingers” radiating outwards from the centre. This is the finger that runs north-east, called Monteluce. Here we are looking from just below the Piazza Michelotti across the Tiber valley to the snow-covered Apennine Mountains beyond. Most of what can be seen of Perugia in the foreground, surrounded by the ancient city wall and including the church of Santa Maria Nuova, lies within the designated Centro Storico (historic centre); and the Tiber valley carries on to the sea through Rome, surely one of the world’s most historic cities.
