Artist's Description

Here is another of my Creative Paintings, this time of Exeter Quay in Devon. The quay was in use some 4000 years ago, when the Phoenicians sailed from what is now Lebanon to buy tin & copper, to make bronze, from the Celts who lived here at Isca, on the banks of the Exe. Later, the Romans built a fortress here, to defend Roman-occupied England against the war-like Cornish. Later still, Exeter became a centre of the Devon Wool trade, and became rich. Now, the Quay is only used by tourists and holiday-makers, looking for a drink or a meal in this idyllic setting. In the background is The Custom House, which was the first brick-built building in Exeter.
