Artist's Description

This is the gas flare from the floating production facility, really, just a big oil tanker on a semi-permanent mooring many miles out to sea.
When the oil comes up from the well, it comes with gas and water, and has to go through a 3 stage separation process, to get clan oil.
As the can’t store the gas on board, some of it is used to run generators, and the rest is flared.
raw gas cannot be dischareged to atmosphere, because it is heavier than air, and the risk of explosion is great, so it must be burned.
Oil is then taken from the facility into tankers that park astern of the facility, and then a hose is run to the tanker, and the offtake begins. The oil is mostly taken to China, where it is usedfor power generation.
