Artist's Description

Guatemala is heartbreaking for a lot of reasons. Volcanoes, cathedrals and ruins dot the landscape making it both dramatic and nostalgic. This photograph was taken from the ruins of grand old cathedral.

To me, this fallen cathedral, which must have been amazing in its day, is a symbol of how Guatemala could be, but isn’t. As I write this, half of the population of this extremelt fertile land suffers from malnutrition and illiteracy is very high. A great many people have pychological scars from the CIA sponsored terrorism during the 1980’s – remember Reagan’s Contra group? Poor Guatemala.
