Artist's Description

You might have heard this story. A farmer was working his field with an ox drawn plough when one of the animals hooves fell into a hole. Smoke came out of the hole and the farmer covered it with dirt. Next time round the field the same happened again a few metres away from the first hole. He covered it over again. Then there was a lot of smoke coming out of the ground. He got out of there when he saw lava slowly bubbling up from the ground. Over the next three years the volcano slowly covered an enormous area, including an entire town.

This cathedral, located about 5km from the site of the first eruption, is all that’s left.
