Artist's Description

This is a colourised version of a pencil sketch I did of an Aztec statue of Coatlicue (who’s name translates as something like ‘she who wears a skirt of snakes’). Coatlicue was an aztec goddess who unfortunately had her head chopped off in later life and is described as a sort of ‘primordial earth mother’. For further information, there’s a brief informative write up on wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coatlicue
