Artist's Description

The Katyn massacre, also known as the Katyn Forest massacre (Polish: zbrodnia katyńska, ‘Katyń crime’), was a mass murder of thousands of Polish prisoners of war (primarily military officers), intellectuals, policemen, and other public servants by the Soviet NKVD, based on a proposal from Lavrentiy Beria to execute all members of the Polish Officer Corps. I walk past this statue each day and was struck by the alignment to the WTC site. A memorial to one atrocity in the shadow of another.

This image was taken at dawn on the 60th Anniversary of the start of World War 2 and was featured on the BBC World News website.

HDR shot with Pentax k20. 3 Exposures, processed with Photomatix/ potoshop,
