Creatures on the Rock Face

Creatures on the Rock Face

At the kissing edge of the sea miles away,
From the mad dog deep where the big fish play,
I’m here today and every day,
Holding on to the rock face.

I seem serene but I’m fiercely still,
I guard my life with a seasoned will,
Knowing each hammerhead wave can kill,
Holding on to the rock face.

The sea’s too deep, the sky’s too high,
The waves out-weep me when I cry,
I’ll summon no blood up when I die,
Holding on to the rock face.

I’m suckered to stone and blind faith too,
I may one day be reeled to you,
But while I wait for the camera crew,
I’m holding on to the rock face.
