My Butterfly

I’ve kept my vigil over you
day and night.

Nestled in the shroud of childhood,
you are protected from the
harsh realities of life.

Like a young caterpillar,
you live within a small confine
of our world.

As the days pass, I wait attentively.

Wait, for your emancipation from
your cocoon of youth.

Then you will introduce yourself
to the world.

A graceful, free being.

I look forward to that day
with excitement and fear.

Excitement… for you shall hopefully achieve
Your purpose in life.

Fear…for once your wings break the silk,
You may fly away from me forever.
