Artist's Description

The world’s largest hanging organ, by the Austrian organ builder Rieger, was placed on the North wall of the transept of St. Peter’s Cathedral in Regensberg, Germany in 2009. It weighs 36 tons, and is suspended by four steel cables. The instrument has 5871 pipes and boasts of 80 playable ranks. As part of the construction, an elevator, invisible from inside the church, carries the organist up to the instrument for services and concerts.
