Almost Always

Maybe sometimes,
every once in awhile,
almost never does he let go.
He struggles for a voice when he should accept silence.
She pushes through walls when she should pull open doors.
She cries when she should yell,
just as he sins when he should convert.
Maybe sometimes,
every once in awhile,
almost never does she let go.
Maybe sometimes
it’d be easier to forget the “he”
and embrace the “she.”
Every once in awhile
it’d be beautiful to paint,
and almost never does he reach for the brush.
The sky turns colors;
and yet,
she only sees gray.
Some see black.
He almost never sees blue.
Not anymore, not like it used to.
But then things change,
or he was told,
as she was told,
as I was told
but never believed.
Things do change.
Things can change,
and sometimes for the better.
Maybe sometimes,
every once in awhile,
almost always now they let go.
Blue really can be blue, if you let yourself see,
always.

Almost Always
