Faded Half-life

When hopes and dreams blow away like the dust in a summer wind,
And the silver glow behind that dark cloud ends up just as dark and dim.
And you wonder how it got this way and it’s so hard to understand,
How the loves and passions of a young boy are poured out on a dry hot land.

It’s hardest when you know the day when you started to fall behind,
And settled for a half-life and just put up with the lonely daily grind,
When you first realised you didn’t care if your dream would really fly,
God knows why it turned out this way, cause you sure as hell don’t know why.

So you decide that it is not worth the fight, and it is time to let things go,
And young men shake their heads in sigh, but they just don’t know.
Till they’ve lived in your shoes and felt a dream start slipping from their hands,
Till a hope of theirs has died in their hearts, you know they won’t understand.

So what’s all this mean for you and me, well I’m buggered if I really know,
It’s the way of the world how dreams turn out, some die and others grow,
So spare a thought from time to time for the ones who are just making do,
Cause in years to come if your luck runs thin, it might end up being you.
