Artist's Description

MEDIUM: A4 sketchbook white/blue biro pen
DESCRIPTION: I went and downloaded a YouTube internet movie which showed the works of war artist, Kathe Kollwitz. I decided to try and copy some of these in order to go learn more.

As an ‘amateur’, just as this ‘failed’ copy goes to prove, I CANNOT copy a ‘masterpiece’ very effectively! Nevertheless, the process of ‘learning to copy’ others work…I feel is a very important exercise, indeed; because whenever my copying skills do improve…; then, my overall artistic skills should also have improved. As it is, right now, I’m not even able to get a single line right…; nevermind, getting the whole entire picture right!

Always, whenever I do a ‘bad’ copy like this; I’m tempted to go take it down, immediately, straight away; how can I possibly desecrate a ‘masterpiece’ like this…?! On the other hand, I really meant it to be a tribute/and, not an insult to her memory…; as they say, the surest form of flattery is ‘imitation’. I also meant it to show some of the major influences behind my own art works/influences which do constantly serve to both encourage and ‘inspire’ me to keep on going.

To me, Kathe Kollwitz was/is everybody’s mother. ;-)
