Sorrow

The sun it shines all merry outside
day is breaking bright
but this morning I am grieving
and nothing feels alright

My sorrow’s buried deep and dark
not a soul would guess
“You’re doing well” they’ll say to me
in truth, my heart’s a mess

I’ll don my cheeriest face for work
a sparkle and a smile
but underneath it all it’s hate
I hate it all the while

Go follow your dreams then, some will say
let your heart fly high
but sorrow is my anchor now
and I’ve turned to poetry

Words that touch, inspire, release me
by and by I’ll heal
I know my heart will soar again
for now my sorrow’s real

Sorrow

Artist's Description

Time does alter how you look back at written work. I was so angry when I originally wrote this and I have now made some changes and I feel it works better without the histronics.
