Swiss star Fabian Cancellara has underlined his status as the world’s best time trialist with a record fourth world title at the 2010 UCI Road World Championships in Geelong on Thursday.
Cancellara finished the demanding 45.6km course in a time of 58 minutes 9.19 seconds, over a minute clear of his nearest rival, Brit David Millar, with German Tony Martin a further 10 seconds behind to complete the podium.
Millar was just over six seconds in front of Cancellara after the first check point, but the Olympic champion reeled in that deficit over the next 8.1km and was never headed from then on as he added to the world titles he won in 2006, ‘07 and ‘09.
