Appearance over Truth

Just had a very interesting talk with my parents. They are both deep feelers but have been hurt by rejection at various times of their lives. I believe that they have both lived believing they have enjoyed life. However on deeper reflection it would seem that they have worried more about how they appear to others than about being free to engage in relationship.

I think that many people are unconscious to how they live their lives. I think that so many people like my parents are motivated to not look stupid around others. However if this is our motivation in relationship how can we ever truly enjoy ourselves in relationship? I think I too have taken on my parents philosophy and have noticed it especially in sport. I have always believed that I loved my sports until recently.

I have started playing tennis again and intially kept getting back spasms. After a while I realised that they were related to my tension whilst playing. I was so motivated to not make mistakes and look stupid that I was so unconsciously tense. Now if my back even slightly twinges I ask myself if I am enjoying playing. More often than not I realise I have dropped into being tense and in this awareness return to enjoying the game and being free of back pain.

I think that in life and sport we should aim to enjoy ourselves. However often the more passionate we are about a person or activity the more tense we become. I believe this also relates to love. Often we so fear losing the person or activity that we love that the fear of loss becomes unconscious. Then whilst we believe we are loving the actual energy is more of tension. To this end I think it is so important for us all to place self awareness as our no1 priority if we really want to love others and life.

Artist's Description

I am motivated to enjoy and love life to my optimum potential. As such I am passionate about going deep. This piece is the result of some of this depth and looks at true enjoyment. In my opinion so few people allow themselves the freedom to really embrace and enjoy relationship.
