This world would have us in our coffins before we are born,
Lives of a million innocents shattered, ripped and torn.
All words are losing meaning, and meaning drained from life,
Flung from fingertips like droplets to sprinkle earth with strife.
A devil in my head whispers temptation in my ear.
Temptation, not sweet happiness, harbinger of fear -
And yet again it is myself with whom I rest all blame.
Perhaps time remains to save my soul from devouring flame?
A shaft of light falls from high to be cut clean through,
Cleanse my soul and free my spirit & I owe it all to you.
You, and you alone can lift me from this pit of doom,
Instead you shake your head, deny me, drift from the room.
