Artist's Description

Located in La Gran Sabana and Venezuela’s Canaima National Park is the worlds highest waterfall. Its total height is 979m (3230 ft), of which the uninterrupted drop of 807m (2663ft), about 16 times the height of Niagra Falls. Angel Falls spills from the heart-shaped Auyantepui, the largest of the tepuis (table top mountain), with a flat top of about 700sq km. The waterfall is in the central part of the tepui and drops into Canon del Diablo (Devil’s Canyon). The only way into Canaima National Park is by plane and the only way to Angel Falls is by canoe. On my way to the falls in a motorised canoe, we hit a submerged rock, which stopped the canoe instantly and sent everyone forward. I hit my shin on the wooden bench in front of me and how I didn’t break by leg in two was a miracle. It took more than 12 months for the lump on my shin to disappear. After a long hot and painful hike through the rainforest, I arrived at the base of Angel Falls. I took a swim in the pool at the base of the falls which was so refreshing and soothing. Leaning back in the natural pool, towering falls above, looking at the view and being so far away from everything, there was no other place I would have rather been. The scenery from here and everywhere I looked was just simply spectacular.
