Artist's Description

There are a large numbers of sea lions, elephant seals, guanacos, rheas and magellanic penguins of which I was amazed to see and not just hundreds but thousands of them. Looking into the distance I was amazed to see little black dots everywhere, which of course were all magellanic penguins. Many other sea birds frequent the beaches and headlands I arrived at this place towards the end of January. This time of the year is not known for whales. But to my surprise a girl from the tour I was on, came running up 2 me yelling “Paris, Paris, Orcas Orcas!” As you can imagine I took off as fast I could, headed for the beach. What I was so fortunate to see were a pod of Orcas patrolling the waters close to the beach in search of the wondering sea lion for lunch. You can see the look of fear in the eyes of the sea lion to the right of the photo. It was so amazing! I had only seen this before on a documentary on television. But there I was in person, seeing it with my own eyes, experiencing it all. I’ll never forget it.
