REMEMBERED

When I think back, to when I was young
I think of long sunny days, filled with fun
Of two boys playing, with horse and gun
In wood or park by loch or stream
Its always summer in my dream
Running bare foot round the back
Staying out till after dark
A bag of chips, a pokey hat
I always think of things like that
Long summer nights playing in the streets
Kick the can, Ralee’s, all the games we loved to play
I always think of things like that
Of melting tar upon the streets
The hudgee’s on the Midge cart
The daring jumps around the back
I always think of things like that
Of up oor close, and all the tales
The stories, and the Hall street Jail
Woolworth’s on a Saturday bright
Standing outside the pubs at night
Asking drunk men for a penny
To buy some sweets, at Nellie Fee’s
I always think of things like these.
