THE MASK

I wear the mask, to hide away
To hide my face from light of day
The mask protects me in every way
It keeps me safe by night and day

I put it on when first I rise
Before the sunlight fills my eyes
There’s a mask for everyday
Will it be this one or maybe that

The colourful one with the dark hat
The one with the smile,or even the frown
Will I wear it to work
Or even to town

This one for parties, this one for dance
I’ll even wear this one, if given half a chance
One day I forgot to put on my mask
I walked down the road, I thought I was safe

Till my hand reached up and touched my own face
I felt this strange sensation as fingerd touched skin
It was electric really a shock
The mask I was wearing was my own face

I looked in the mirror
I thought who is that
I reached for my mask, and held it on tight
What a relief, once more secure hidden from sight.
