This is a macro I took of a large pile of pebbles being used to mix into cement at a construction site in Cusco, Peru. I found the variety of patterns and colors to be quite extraordinary. As I remember these little stones, it saddens me to think that beauty such as this is now buried in cement. It took millions of years to create these designs, thousands more to polish them in river beds..the sun and wind to refine the color tones ..and then totally without regard they are changed into a monotone structure that probably won’t last but a few decades.
It is so difficult to see the destruction we have caused to the living things on this planet…and to my long, very sad list I now add pebbles.
