The Fantastical Madness of my friend

I saw her slip into a pit of darkness
and could not grip her hands
she held her grasp so tightly
desperate not to fall
until one by one her fingertips
left my grasp
she spiralled
out of control
to plunge into oblivion
a world of fantasy and delusion
all her own
her unreal universe
a continuous dream
of fantastical illustions
where she was carried along
on her wave of madness
submerging her mind and body
in depths of turturous despair
she tried to swim
but sank deeper
into the ocean of the unknown
where reality was her enemy
and her mental state her friend
stuck in a tunnel of the surreal
painting the walls with pain
daubing and splashing
medicated salty tears
to wash her past away

i will pray for her to crawl
then rise up to walk
the tunnel of insanity
to a world of hope
where she will dwell

To exist
or live?

Artist's Description

I wrote this poem in 1999 … my artist and singer friend….so talented… fell into madness and had to be committed to hospital…i felt her slip away from us all…into her own world of dreams…she was sent home to her family afterwards and we lost touch….sadly….her family took control. I will never forget her….she had the voice of an angel and such a wonderful artist.
