Urban Moon

Misty, dark night
Awesome silver moon
Peeping through dense, black clouds
A spotlight on the town
A steeple, tall… stroking the night sky
Eerie quiet, like a ghost town
Silence….

Still metal arms of a crane
Yearning to break free from the rubble
Almost like a giant robot
Stalking the night
Silence…..

Srolling under the subway tunnel
Ominous corners
Corridors of apprehension
Silence…..

Empty train track
Suspended animation
Almost like we are the only two people here
Among the city scape
Guided only by the moon
Silence….

Stark car park
Pillars forming a giant web
Like expectance of a giant insect
Curling its deadly claws around the concrete
Silence….

The only sounds
Distant night traffic
Hum of street lights
As we slowly creep along
We whisper as if being listened to
or watched
By the night itself
Feeling vulnerable and small
Among hungry giants of concrete and glass
Silence…..

The only lights to guide our way
Dim, misty street lamps
The magnetic moon
Periodically ruled by the grey mesh of clouds
Tall hoardings hiding remains of buildings
Where people once worked
Laughed
Cried
Outer shells gone forever
But echoes of history hang in the air
Silence……..
