I will quote my answer to Billyboy"s comment as to my thought processes in creating the work… "When I saw the photo, I did think of destruction and decided that destruction would be part and parcel of the whole scheme, but also that the support would be part of it…
So not just a painting of destruction, but the destruction of the paint, in part going right to the fibers of the canvas..
At the same time there is light…the light that comes from hope…the light that glowed right from the start, that was there all the time, but which got obscured along the way…a viewer can get a spiritual awakening from the experience as evinced by Michael’s choice of music for his title, or take it as something very physical, very literal
