Artist's Description

So tempting to let freeze
One’s deepest, darkest pools
And learn to skim with ease
Thin ice; for who but fools

Dive into who-knows-what?’
‘But if the ice by chance
Breaks?’ ’But if not, if not?
And how it glitters! Dance
!’..A. S. J. Tessimond

And as you cross the circle line
The ice-wall creaks behind
You’re a rabbit on the run.
And the silver splinters fly
In the corner of your eye
Shining in the setting sun
..Jethro Tull
Believe it or not I wasn’t even thinking of the Olympics when I did this painting, it was the poem that was in my mind at the time, but the idea of the games, did strike me about half way through…
The poem is about skating, (as is the song below it), you know the whole skating on ice metaphor…the poet exhorts us to forget risk, to dance…why not why not?
However I thought that skiing was an even greater metaphor for taking risks in life…once you hurtle off a mountain there is no going back…you’ve gone past the plunge of plummet, you are flying into the future, come what may
..Toronto Canada

It makes me very happy that this is in time for the opening ceremonies..
Painted in the style of Chinese Brush Painting in Watercolour on Arches Not Paper
