Artist's Description

Journal
pen on paper

This is a completely random thought about something that occurred to me while I was in the shower. A whole lot of development was going on with new houses being built near the campus. There were also local works going on near the creek for flooding and mitigation control.

I used to see these ditches being dug. They would get longer or deeper every time I saw them, but I never did see the work being done, just a mysterious and unaccountable difference from the last time.

Maybe there are invisible machines working unseen. Maybe they are there now digging unawares.

There is change all around us. Development. “Progress”. The only constant is change. Change is upon us before we have even realised it —before we have noticed it. We just look to the world one day and suddenly it just doesn’t seem like it used to be, but we can’t quite describe how and we don’t really know exactly when that happened.

I think this is what I was thinking about. I can’t be sure now. My mind does tend to wander in the shower though…
