For Now . . .

A positive memory of you slips past my firewall
The virus scan springs to life
Quicker than I can register, the memory is back in the vault.
My system desperately attempts to repair the damage
A negative memory fills my mind
A strong reminder of why you and I are no longer us.
The system did not work fast enough
For now the feeling of fondness remains
More painful than the familiar anger & bitterness
My companions and protectors for so long.
Could I be healing?
If accepting the good memories is the next step
I don’t know it’s one I wish to take.
I can farewell anger and bitterness
But as for you . . .
Back to the vault.
For now . . .

For Now . . .

Artist's Description

Amazing how a split second incident – something inconsequential – can release a flow of memories & ruminations

Thank you to the amazing Ani Corless for allowing me to use the image Safety to set off this piece
