I'm envious of RedBubbler, Rodney Wells, up there living, painting near the ocean.

I came across the work of RedBubbler, Rodney Wells, and I like his style of painting. Turns out that, in September, 2007, I was in the area, where he lives (and paints).

Town Beach picks up gong – Posted Thu Nov 8, 2007 8:25am AEDT
Port Macquarie’s Town Beach has been officially recognised as the New South Wales mid-north coast’s cleanest beach.
Town Beach was named yesterday as regional winner of the Keep Australia Beautiful Clean Beach Challenge for 2008.
It is now in the running for the state-wide award to be announced next month.
Horseshoe Bay Beach at South West Rocks picked up the litter prevention award and the friendly beach award, while Lighthouse Beach was recognised for conservation work.
Rainbow Beach at Bonny Hills also featured in the regional prize list.

Now that’s come about because the Keep Australia Beautiful Clean Beach Challenge NSW committee, which makes the final decisions, regarding these awards, took into account my assessment of these beaches.

This is what I saw, the day I found Bonny Hills:

Summary: Rainbow Beach, Bonny Hills, NSW, impressed, during assessment, as a friendly well-used environment, including the beach and the land and facilities, behind the beach.
Highlights/Innovations
Evidence submitted includes:
Beach showers with water saving shower heads. Children’s playground, recently redeveloped to provide a safe area for young children.
Promotion of visitor friendliness: Rainbow Beach is listed in ‘Guide Books’ as a one-night safe stopover area for campervans.

Recently hosted Drought Relief Program and welcomed one hundred visitors to the beach and surrounding area.
Two caravan parks/ holiday village(s) border the beach, promoting it as "A paradise of beach and bush.

The Wauchope-Bonny Hills SLS club, at Rainbow Reach, ensures that trailers and other gear are not stored outside the clubhouse.
Club members take care that litter is removed after all activities.
Clean-up days are held regularly and junior members are instructed to maintain the area.

Along with plans for the construction of an eco-friendly clubhouse, the club has applied for a community water fund grant, to ensure that run-off from the roof does not damage the reserve or the beach.
Regional and state championships are held for long board and short board clubs, at Rainbow Beach.
Clean Up Australia Day drop-off stations are located at Rainbow Beach.
Bonny Hills Land Care group and the Bonny Hills Progress Associations, take pride in the Rainbow Beach and reserve area.

Recent projects have included improvement of the salt water creek, the spraying of the dunes against weeds and removing weeds from the creek. The ANZ bank donated $4000 for the planting of native plants and trees in the area.
A local group is collating information for a koala count register. "

Artist's Description

That sea-change !! Good idea? Bad idea? While enjoying assessing the beaches, on the coast of New South Wales, for the Keep Australia Beautiful, Clean Beach Challenge, I have also been considering whether I shall still have a third (and last) go at settling near the ocean, to actually live the song tat my grandmother used to sing, about a shack by the sea.
