Artist's Description

If this is the first time you’ve visited my bubble, let me explain that I am in my third year of attending an art class for beginners in oil painting, at the Hazelhurst Arts and Community Centre and I am putting off the plan that I had, for such a long time, namely to join a local art society, once I’d retired and do my painting to participate in its activities.
The first time I attended Hazelhurst, the teacher, a lady called Gwen, set up one of her pictures, that of a wave, for us to copy.
I enjoyed doing that. A theme developed, painting beach scenes, as well as entering, at the time, the competition then run by Radio Netherlands, named: Inspired by Rembrandt.
Since then, bring my own work to do and that motivates me to have a painting on-the-go, all the time.
I like to listen in to what other students are told about painting.
I enjoy the atmosphere there and three hours of simply painting, and having Melissa, the teacher, come around, at least twice, to make some comments and give advice.
As I went to type this, I chanced to over-hear, on my driveway, a snippet of conversation, from next-door.
East Sydney Tech was being mentioned. That happens to be where, between 1969 and 1971, I attended an art teachers conversion course, which I did not complete.
At least it did give me some extra status, in the primary department (From 2 year-trained to 3 year-trained). It gave me lots of ideas and motivation for teaching art to primary pupils.
Since then, having done this course, I was often the staff member, at the schools where I taught, who was the logical person to attend in-service courses, on the topic. (Although I attended a lot more on the topic of multicultural education.)
So……………… it often gives me some satisfaction to hear the teacher of the course that I now attend, say things that I used to do to my pupils, (Things that I’d learnt through the conversion – or in-service- courses) even undertake activities which are similar to those that I used, to teach art.
Meanwhile, I’m also learning new ideas.
Tomorrow I shall take all of these in, to get some advice on, but work on the latest ( the big picture ).
